COVAC on a mission to save 2020 school year
Anxiously anticipating news on how government will phase out a plan to reintroduce formal learning incorporating the school curriculum while observing the stay-at-home directive, parents and pupils can breathe a sigh of relief as COVAC will spearhead various programmes in an effort to ‘prevent a total loss of the school year’.
While the Department of Education has postponed the return of their workforce and the re-opening of schools until further notice, leaving parents and pupils to cope with the demands of home-schooling during the lockdown, the Coronavirus Action Committee has proposed a number of practical solutions after having discussed the education crisis with a few principals and teachers from the community.
“COVAC was formed by the Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre and has been implementing positive changes throughout the community during the nationwide pandemic.”

Leading the committee, Clive Pillay stated that one of the key initiatives proposed was that COVAC will set up a temporary community radio station dedicated to the Chatsworth area, which will broadcast certain parts of the curriculum to support lessons for all grades.
